A Winning “One Page Dungeon”
Congratulations to Aaron Potter, colleague and friend of the Ludus crew, for being one of the first place winners in the “One Page Dungeon” contest!
You can view his award winning entry, “A Stolen Song,” and discover the tragic history of the astronomer monks of Farsky as you wade through the temple’s forsaken guardians and uncover its dark secret. I was fortunate enough to get to be one of the playtesters for his entry this year as he included his dungeon into our ongoing campaign. It was a very evocative and intriguing dungeon with a great mix of combat encounters and a bit of historical mystery solving.
If you haven’t yet discovered the wonderful “One Page Dungeon” contest, then you really owe it to yourself to check it out. Every year a jury of accomplished RPG personalities wade through scads of short adventures submitted by inventive Game Masters from all over the world. This year the judges were “Hoard of the Dragon Queen” author Steve Winter, “Daddy Rolled a 1” blogger Martin Thomas, and D&D Adventure League encounters author Teos Abadia.
The contest is a fantastic concept and a brilliant creative take on dungeon design, but even more importantly it is a spectacular resource. All of the submissions can be viewed at the contest website, providing you with hundreds of potential short adventures. The previous year’s entries are also still available. Many include fantastic maps and ideas on how they might serve as a kernel for further development and expansion.
